Do any of these sound familiar?

  • You often put other people’s needs before your own.

  • You struggle with anxiety or feel emotionally overwhelmed at times.

  • You fear rejection or abandonment.

  • You rarely feel “good enough.”

  • You find yourself repeating unhealthy relationship patterns.

  • You experienced emotional neglect, criticism, abuse, or instability while growing up.

If several of these resonate with you, unresolved childhood experiences may still be influencing your life today. Together, we can gently explore these experiences in a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space, helping you better understand their impact and create meaningful change.

How Childhood Trauma Can Affect Adults

Many adults who grew up in difficult or emotionally challenging environments develop coping strategies that helped them get through those experiences. While these strategies may have been necessary at the time, they can sometimes create challenges later in life.

You may recognise some of the following:

  • Anxiety or constant worry

  • Putting other people’s needs before your own

  • Difficulty trusting others

  • Perfectionism and fear of making mistakes

  • Low self-worth or self-doubt

  • Feeling emotionally disconnected or shut down

  • Struggles in relationships

These patterns are often understandable responses to earlier experiences, not personal flaws. With  appropriate Adult Trauma Counsellor support, it’s possible to understand where they come from, heal old wounds, and develop healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.

How can I help?

My name is Pam Varas, and I am a Registered Counsellor (Level 3) with the Australian Counselling Association. I am passionate about supporting adults to heal childhood wounds and understand how past experiences continue to shape their lives today.

My approach is trauma-informed and incorporates parts work and inner child work, providing a safe and compassionate space for clients to explore their experiences without judgment. Together, we identify the patterns, beliefs, and coping strategies that developed in response to difficult life experiences.

I believe many of the beliefs we hold about ourselves were shaped not by who we are, but by what happened to us. While these beliefs once helped us cope and survive, they may no longer support the life we want to live.

A key part of my work is helping clients connect past experiences with present-day challenges. Through reflection, self-exploration, and greater understanding, clients often gain insight into their emotions, relationships, and sense of self. Healing begins when we can acknowledge our experiences, understand our needs, and respond to ourselves with compassion.

Many clients leave counselling feeling more connected to themselves, better equipped to navigate challenges, and more able to move beyond survival patterns.

My goal is to help clients reconnect with their authentic selves and create meaningful, lasting change.

Beating anxiety

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Even though I’ve only been seeing Pamela Varas for a short time, I already feel a meaningful shift in how I relate to my thoughts and emotions.

From the very first session, she created a calm, welcoming space where I felt truly heard and supported—something that made it easy to open up and start to set clear goals together.

We’re currently working on calming unhelpful thought patterns and reducing anxiety, and Pamela has introduced me to practical tools like CBT techniques, compassionate self-talk, and simple breathing exercises.

Even in these early stages, I’m noticing small but important changes in how I respond to challenges. It’s still early days, but I feel more hopeful and empowered than I have in a long time. If you’re looking for a therapist who is warm, grounded, and genuinely invested in your progress, I highly recommend Pam Varas.'
